Soon after leaving the car park, the bike computer gets to work. Off the road and into the woods. It greedily counts the first precious metres on the narrow forest path. The trail soon runs alongside a stream, interrupted time and again by root passages that put your cycling skills to the test for the first time. Shortly afterwards, it's not just the ever-increasing number on the altimeter that signals that the Feldberg in the Taunus is more than just a wooded hill: drops of sweat bead off Daniel's forehead and the small blade is joined by the chain. After all, it's a good 500 vertical metres to the summit, which is quite respectable for a low mountain range.
