Here in Koblenz, at the Deutsches Eck, the Rhine and Moselle meet. The rivers have created a landscape that offers bikers a huge arsenal of possibilities. Over the millennia, Father Rhine has dug a deep trench, the steep banks of which are teeming with trails. The Moselle to the west and the Lahn to the east have accomplished a similar feat. The three rivers separate four German low mountain ranges: in the north-west lies the Eifel. The maars are typical here: volcanic craters filled with water that are a good place to stop for a swim on a tour. The Hunsrück in the south-west is affectionately called the Hundsbuckel by its inhabitants. The Romans already cultivated wine on its Moselle slopes. The Westerwald in the north-east is just a rump mountain range. Wind and rain have honed its peaks into a rounded hilly landscape. The Taunus in the south-east is home to three nature parks. All of this can be reached by bike from Koblenz. In addition, the varied landscape is garnished with a mild climate that heralds the start of the biking season early in the year: the trees are already in full bloom here at the beginning of May.
