There are days in May when the sun is already brooding over the city and you feel like you have to get out. Get out of Munich, up the mountain, soak up the trail flow for the first time this season. But barely an hour's drive away - as a Munich resident, you know this for a fact - the remnants of snow are still lurking in the Bavarian mountainsides. But over the years, you do get a feel for spring trails that are already passable from May due to their sunny location. And the Hirschberg Trail near Kreuth on Lake Tegernsee is just such a trail. I know that the trail runs quite a distance from the Hirschberg, but I don't care, that's just how the name has become established for me.
The loop is exactly what I can expect from my spring-weary legs: a leisurely roll-in route on gravel with relaxed ups and downs along the meltwater-cloudy Weißach. Just as I'm starting to sweat, the Schwarzentennalm appears as if on cue for a refreshment stop. Idyllically situated in a meadow with a few old haystacks around it and beautifully bathed in sunshine. Just right. After all, we've already climbed 250 metres! After a rest and a short downhill section, the remaining 350 metres in altitude follow - in a somewhat steeper form and in one go.
