Baden-Württemberg's largest spa town, Bad Mergentheim, offers wine cyclists something special: from here you can easily cycle through three different wine-growing regions, Württemberg, Baden and Franconia. The town area already divides into two wine regions: the district of Dainbach belongs to the Baden wine-growing region, while Markelsheim with its interesting educational wine trail belongs to Württemberg.
The wine-growing tour runs mainly along quiet country roads as well as farm tracks and cycle paths. A few climbs are to be expected. If you have acquired a taste for cycling after the taster cycle tour, we recommend the wine cycle tour. It takes in six daily stages from winegrowers to wine taverns in the three wine regions. Be sure to try it: Tauberschwarz, an old red wine variety that is pressed in Weikersheim and Markelsheim, for example. It originated from an unnamed red wine that was planted in the region around 1560 under Count Wolfgang von Hohenlohe.
