Cycling tours in the Franconian Lake District
Seven man-made lakes make up the Franconian Lake District. They were created with the Danube-Main transfer between the water-rich south and the water-poor north of Bavaria.

Today, the Große Brombachsee and the Altmühlsee in particular are popular local recreation areas with bathing beaches, water sports centres and restaurants - and many cycle paths of varying lengths. Starting in Gunzenhausen or Muhr am See, there are at least ten circular routes around the Altmühlsee and through the neighbouring Franconian region alone. If you want to immerse yourself in culture and history as well as enjoying the lake, we recommend taking the Limes cycle path from Gunzenhausen, for example, which follows 130 kilometres of the former Roman border fortifications (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and still shows numerous signs of Roman settlement.
