The Baden Wine Cycle Route connects the Baden wine regions of Markgräflerland, Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg, Breisgau, Ortenau, Kraichgau and Badische Bergstraße over a distance of around 460 kilometres from Basel to Laudenbach on the border with Hesse. It is signposted throughout with a red logo.
The protective mountains of the Black Forest, the Odenwald and the Vosges provide a mild climate that is ideal for viticulture.
Along the route, there are over 300 wineries, winegrowers' cooperatives and some excellent wine shops, as well as a number of wine tourism highlights such as a corkscrew museum and old troughs.
The main cycle route runs mainly on tarmac roads and only rarely on unpaved field and forest paths. Really busy stretches are the exception. The steep sections in the vineyards require a good level of fitness or an e-bike.
The cycle path was inaugurated in spring 2020, the signposting with the red signs was incomplete at the time due to corona, but should now be complete.
It is best to cycle with a sat nav and use our GPS track, which occasionally deviates from the original route where it makes sense from a scenic point of view. Our route between Basel and Heidelberg therefore covers 430 kilometres and 4,100 metres in altitude.
