By bike on the castles circular route
The hills and valleys of Mecklenburg Switzerland are home to one beautiful castle after another. Their beautifully landscaped parks often merge seamlessly with nature. In this region alone, ten parks bear the signature of the most important garden architect of classicism, Peter Joseph Lenné, for example the parks in Basedow and Remplin. Many of these former castles and manor houses are now home to elegant hotels or important concert halls. The biggest gems in the illustrious collection of the circular route are the castles of Teschow, Prebberede, Lelkendorf and Basedow. There are also several others and dozens of manor houses, one in almost every village. But it's not just historical architecture that awaits cyclists. Several burial mounds from the Stone Age and the Slavic ring wall on an island in Lake Teterow bear witness to the early settlement of this region. The Mecklenburg Switzerland Nature Park is home to rare plants and animals. White-tailed eagles, ospreys and lesser spotted eagles breed here and, with a bit of luck, otters and beavers can be spotted. The 140-kilometre route can be completed in two one-day stages. However, nature and culture literally cry out for an additional stage.
