Blue hours - two day tours around Lenggries
60 kilometres south of Munich lies Lenggries in the Isar Valley. The surrounding mountains rise to around 1,800 metres above sea level, but river valleys and lake shores also provide touring cyclists with access to pre-Alpine postcard landscapes.

In the "Short trip" section, we present two day tours in each region. Perfect for a successful cycling weekend.

The GPX tracks are available free of charge on the MYBIKE tour portal:

Tour 1: Fairytale toll roads

77 km, 600 metres in altitude, max. gradient 6 percent
Surface: almost exclusively tarmac

Up to the Sylvenstein dam, the cycle path is a relaxed ride, followed by around 10 kilometres of main road. The narrow toll road from Vorderriss to Wallgau is free for cyclists and, thanks to a speed limit of 50 km/h, is very easy to cycle on, as is its counterpart on the way back from Einsiedl am Walchensee to Jachenau. The tour only leads over fine gravel just before Walchensee and at the end of the Jachenau valley, otherwise it is completely tarmac and very easy to ride. An early start is recommended at the weekend, before the Munich convertibles and motorbikes arrive. There are great opportunities to swim in cold rivers and lakes along the way.

Tour 2: Tegernsee and Achenpass

80 km, 950 metres in altitude, max. gradient 14 percent
Surface: high proportion of finely gravelled forest paths

Mainly on cycle paths, this route leads from Lenggries via Marienstein, the west bank of Lake Tegernsee and the Weißach Valley to the Achen Pass. For the descent from the pass, it makes sense to switch briefly to the road, as the cycle path has pointless metres in altitude. Shortly before the Sylvensteinsee lake, a decision has to be made: three kilometres without a cycle path on the main road to the Sylvenstein dam, or with around 150 additional, steep metres in altitude to Fall and back from there? A practically car-free route, more suitable for experienced cyclists.

The short trip to Lenggries with the two tour suggestions was featured in MYBIKE issue 1/2019.
