"A lot has happened here since your last test," says the hire manager from Bikepark Braunlage. In fact, the park was completely dug up in 2013.

12 million euros were invested in the ski resort in the Harz Mountains. The park is also said to have benefited from this. According to the rumours, further wooden features have been added to the slopes following the renovation work. In short, we were unable to test the new runs and can only describe our impression from our visit in 2013. A total of five main routes are available. Each with an elevation gain of around 400 metres. Impressive: the length of the descents. The relatively flat route profile is ideal for beginners. The freeride (approx. 3.4 km) was our favourite with its many wooden elements. These are well dimensioned and also manageable for beginners. The Northshore section with its many skinnies is also fun and sensibly constructed. The single trail, on the other hand, is rather boring and sometimes even leads down into the valley on a wide forest road. The four-kilometre race track appeals to experts with its challenging gaps. Two new trails are planned for 2015. In our 2013 test, the park was awarded 6.5 out of 10 points.

Conclusion Long stretches. Mostly natural. Good for beginners!

PLUS Variety of routes, long descents, can be easily combined with other parks e.g. Schulenberg or Hahnenklee (approx. 30 minutes by car)

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
