Albstadt is located in the centre of the Swabian Alb. A 1:20-hour drive south of Stuttgart. This is where former downhill racer Holger Blum got involved.

The German Downhill Championships were held in Albstadt in 2014. You have to demonstrate your first skills on the way up: The approximately 135 metres in altitude are covered with a fast drag lift. There are three main routes: the Mini DH, the Castle Trail and the North Loop. The mini DH begins on a starting tower. Then it's down to the valley over small table jumps and banked turns. Sometimes you don't have the momentum for one or two jumps. Good for beginners: there are hardly any tricky sections here. The north loop runs partly on the same track, partly parallel. It has more jumps in store. The Castle Trail starts on a weatherproof crushed sand track until the narrow trail leads into the forest. Tables, doubles and wooden jumps are fun and generate airtime. In the forest, the trail continues on forest floor. The route seems a bit "old school". It doesn't offer too many features. Good: The routes have been modified again and again in recent years.

Conclusion Nice, small bike park. Good for park newcomers.

PLUS Beginner-friendly, favourable
MINUS Few metres in altitude, partly sensitive to moisture

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
