Beautiful tour through Schleswig-Holstein
On the Eider-Treene-Sorge cycle path to ice-age hills and Dutch towns, through meadows and moorland

Away from large cities and tourist centres, the 240 km long cycle path winds its way through wide meadow landscapes criss-crossed by bends, ditches and the remains of ice-age hills, the so-called Holmen. The Dutch town of Friedrichstadt with its canals and gabled houses is a jewel in the crown.

Character:

The Eider-Treene-Sorge cycle path is fully signposted and runs for 240 km on well-maintained farm tracks, side roads and cycle paths away from motorised traffic. In the lowland areas and in the North Frisian and Dithmarsch marshes in the west, the route is largely flat. Smaller inclines are to be expected, particularly in the Geest landscape in the eastern part of the route. The route is easy to cycle and therefore also suitable for beginners and families with children.

Best time to travel:

May to the end of September.

Journey:

Husum, Heide, Schleswig and Rendsburg as well as Lunden and Friedrichstadt have connections to the Deutsche Bahn. Trains run every hour and take bicycles. Cyclists can call the railway hotline on 01805/99 66 33 (14 ct/min. from landlines, max. 42 ct/min. from mobile phones).

Tour combinations:

Viking-Friesian Trail, Kiel Canal Route, Ox Trail

A worthwhile detour: Andresen's pub in Katingsiel near Tönning is almost a cult site. The innkeeper Wilhelm is unique, the cosy pub is a gem, and the cakes and eggnog are of the finest quality. www.schankwirtschaft-andresen.de
