Everything feels like a marathon, except that the Chiemgau Bike Trophy has no stopwatch.

It's all about the group experience: at the new Chiemgau Bike Trophy, gravel and mountain bikers meet at the end of May to experience the mountain region around Inzell, Ruhpolding, Siegsdorf and Bergen on idyllic alpine trails.

On the long Ascension Day weekend, the Chiemgau Alps are calling for a kind of group ride for touring bikers. The event starts on 31 May in the Max-Aicher-Arena in Inzell, where there will also be an expo area with technical support and catering stands from local providers, as well as a technical course to get you into the groove.

When registering, everything is done in the same way as for a marathon: there are three routes to choose from with 45, 64 or 84 kilometres, you receive a starter pack with race number and goodie bag, the routes are signposted and at certain crossroads there are also marshals waving in the right direction. Medical support and refreshment stations are also provided along the routes. The only thing missing: a rushing stopwatch.

This leaves plenty of time for chatting with like-minded people along the way and for a cosy stop at the pretty mountain huts for which the Chiemgau is so famous. You can also let your eyes wander with a clear conscience at the neuralgic viewpoints or stop for a swim at the crystal-clear lakes and waterfalls you pass. There are virtually no technically demanding passages built into the routes. After all, beginners and gravel bikers without suspension travel should also have fun on the Trophy.

The race starts on Saturday between 8.30 am and 10 am in 10-minute intervals and the finish in Inzell should be reached by 6 pm. Those who arrive on Friday 30 May will have even more of the planned supporting programme, which starts at 2 pm in the Expo area. There will be music, good food, plenty of local beer, partner events and a special screening of the Bike Film Tour in the evening to get you in the mood.

Not to be confused with the Chiemgau King!

Of course, you can still be crowned Chiemgau King in the region - the Bavarian answer to the famous Stoneman Trail. If you manage the 168 kilometres and 4629 metres of altitude difference through the Chiemgau Alps in one day from 1 May to 31 October, you can put on the golden crown, if you take two days, you get a silver crown and if you take three days, you get the bronze crown. However, a mountain bike is really necessary for this route. An e-MTB is also possible, for which there is a separate e-crown.
