The water of Lake Eibsee is a Caribbean blue-green colour. Reason enough to set off on a trail descent from a great vantage point above the lake.

The enjoyable trail to the Eibsee is set against the imposing backdrop of the Wetterstein massif with views of the Alpspitze and the Jubiläumsgrat ridge to the Zugspitze summit. From the ski stadium, the route follows the railway line to Grainau and up steeper forest paths to the Eibsee. From the Eibsee hotel, continue towards the Hochtörle hut. The gravel path by the Zugspitz cog railway has a pleasant gradient with a view of the lake. After approx. 350 metres in altitude, an unsignposted trail (Z1) branches off to the right. At the top it is bumpy and in the second part (after the track) more wooded, but it is rideable throughout. You can now circle the lake before returning to the ski stadium along the same route.

Tour data: 29.4 km, 630 m elevation gain, 2h 10 min

Since Gitta crossed the Alps twice at racing speed, she has favoured multi-day tours - by MTB in the Alps or by gravel bike through the German low mountain ranges.
