After Lenggries at the latest, however, the route becomes more challenging as it climbs up to the Sylvenstein reservoir in the Karwendel mountains and continues on a sporty up and down across the border to the beautifully situated Achensee, nestled deep between the peaks of the Rofan and Karwendel.
The finale is an exciting serpentine descent steeply down into the wide Inn Valley near Wiesing. If you still don't have enough kilometres in your legs, follow the well-developed Inn cycle path towards Innsbruck or back to Germany.
A bit of everything. The route from Munich to the Tyrolean Inn is mostly on traffic-free cycle paths, field and forest tracks, some of which are tarmac. You can also expect some bumpy sections as well as steep climbs and descents, such as from Lake Achensee down into the Inn Valley. The route is only recommended for children aged 10 to 12. In Upper Bavaria, the two route variants through the Isar Valley or through the Tegernsee Valley can also be combined into a recommended circular tour.
Via Bavarica Tyrolensis, 225 km, moderately difficult (3-4 daily stages)
Route: (west route) Munich - Wolfratshausen - Bad Tölz - Lenggries - Sylvensteinstausee - Achenkirch - Achensee - Maurach - Wiesing - Jenbach (possibly continue on the Inn cycle path towards Innsbruck or back to Bavaria)
Best time to travel: June to mid-September.
