Corsica is certainly not a bike mecca. Devoid of any mountain bike infrastructure, the island makes a real secret of its potential. The terrain is steep, rough, wild and rugged. But there are an incredible number of trails. Most of them are labelled as challenging trails. So it's not a downhill wonderland, but if you love natural trails and long all-mountain-style descents, you'll find what you're looking for here. Mare-a-Mare Nord is one of the longest trails on the island's maps. It leads through the middle of the island's most rugged mountain range, with 21 of its peaks alone rising over 2000 metres into the sky. The highest point is Monte Cinto at 2706 metres.
"This route presents no difficulties", at least that's what the hiking guide says. From Moriani via Corte to Cargese, the Mare a Mare Nord route can supposedly be completed in twelve days. This traverse across the island is definitely not recommended for mountain bikers. Only those looking for an absolute challenge in terms of riding technique should even consider the route. But then only with sufficient suspension travel. 150 millimetres is perfect and just light enough to be able to carry you up the often bumpy counter-climbs.
The tyres should have good tread and reinforced sidewall protection, as the tour not only leads through blocked rock gardens, but also through thorny terrain. A shuttle vehicle (preferably two) is also necessary so that you don't lose energy unnecessarily on the often steep and bumpy climbs and can tackle the individual sections in the more favourable direction.
