France / Switzerland: Portes du Soleil
Welcome to the largest biking area in the world. South of Lake Geneva, 380 kilometres of trails beckon - and 80 percent of them are downhill. This is due to the 24 lifts.

Double, berm, steep ramp and ... Roadgap! Without twitching a finger on the brake lever and without pre-checking the landing, Matt and Wade let themselves over the kicker. They fly precisely across the entire width of the road, where they touch down gently on the embankment and race towards the next berm. The whole thing with style. Naturally. I, on the other hand, would end up in the orthopaedics, I know that for sure. That's why I take the flowing chickenway and meet them again further down.

We are in Champéry, in Switzerland, one of the villages of Portes du Soleil, the largest internationally-linked ski area in the world. In winter, you can ski down 650 kilometres of slopes and use 204 mountain lifts with one lift pass. Now, in summer, "only" 24 of them are open, but the D is more than enough for biking. Hundreds of kilometres of trails are linked together - thanks to the chairlifts, gondolas and trains - to form a gigantic circuit.
