The perfect trail tour
"It will be the perfect singletrail tour and one of the best bike experiences of your life!" These were the words I used to entice Gudrun, Lorenz and Dave. With the help of locals and books, I mapped out a tour from Ventimiglia on the Mediterranean to the foot of Monte Viso. The objective: no ascent without a singletrail descent. In fact, the first one and a half days were exactly what I had in mind. We set off along the coast towards the Maritime Alps via the well-surfaced border ridge road. The old military road balanced on the border between France and Italy for a few kilometres until our first descent finally branched off: a singletrail along a rocky outcrop. Everything was going according to plan. But then we missed a turn-off and deviated from the planned route.
The tour leads in seven stages from Ventimiglia on the Mediterranean through the Western Alps to Saluzzo, near Monte Viso (3841 m). The total route measures 355 kilometres and 13,400 metres in altitude, leads over challenging trails and includes pushing sections. Only for fit and technically experienced adventurers!
