The MYBIKE tour tip: A panoramic, short high-altitude tour, ideal as a taster tour on La Gomera, starts in the famous Valle Gran Rey and leads up to the villages of Arure, Las Hayas and El Cercado.

The shape of the island is somehow reminiscent of a gigantic coconut macaroon in the sea. This means that mountains, barrancos (deep ravines) and, at the top, the Parque Nacional de Garajonay with its cloud forest characterise the landscape of the second smallest Canary Island.

However, the wild mountainous terrain also means that there are no long flat stretches for rolling in. The roads wind their way across La Gomera in almost endless hairpin bends, up and down the picturesque valleys, such as the Valle Gran Rey, which used to be known as Hippie Valley. Road traffic is significantly less than on the larger islands. And the consolation for less fit cyclists: the e-bike has also long since found its way onto La Gomera.
By the way, if you fancy a change of bike and sport, Gomera is primarily an attractive destination for mountain bikers and hikers.
