Spain: Malaga - Sierra Nevada
Anyone who only thinks of cream ice cream with sultanas when they hear the word "Malaga" should urgently close this educational gap. The only reason spring is taking so long to arrive here is because it can't get away from Andalusia. Maybe it's just enjoying the freeride spots in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada!

As Swiss, we actually have enough "Sierra Nevada" at home, as the name means "snow-covered mountains". Nah, give it a rest. We're more in the mood for sunshine and dusty trails. So why Sierra Nevada? Because the Sierra Nevada we're talking about is in southern Spain. There may still be snow on the peaks of its main ridge in March, but not in the foothills.

To be on the safe side, we fly to Malaga - which, as you know, is on the Costa del Sol. Sunshine coast. That's right! March has over 220 hours of sunshine on the programme there and average temperatures of just under 20 degrees. Together with my bike buddy Jonas Müller, I set off from Biel. We meet bike photographer Stefan Hunziker at the Easy Jet counter at Geneva Airport and are all set. The fact that our aircraft has to be showered with de-icer before take-off really gets us in the mood for the trip to southern Spain.
