We start early in the morning. There are no clouds in the sky, but there has been frost during the night. Like a spider's web, winter has spread its first messengers over the otherwise brightly-coloured bristle grass. But the ice crystals don't stand a chance against the first rays of sunshine. Now the autumnal Carpathian landscape is awakening. We cruise over lovely meadow hills, later we fight our way up a scree slope over a rugged rocky backdrop until we reach the 2,000 metre mark again. Up here, the sun seems to have already lost the battle against the cold autumn wind - the first snowfields are a sign of winter. But the view is overwhelming: a razor-sharp mountain landscape stretches to the horizon and we can't see a trace of human settlement. The descent from the Saua Strunga Pass feels just as wild and unspoilt. A rocky singletrail leads past abandoned mountain pastures, becomes steeper and finally winds its way through dense, dark spruce forest. The descent ends at the river Bângaleasa. The route then takes us along a beautiful little road paved with river pebbles, first through dense forest and later through the farming village of Moieciu de Sus. As the sun sets, we reach our accommodation, a small farmhouse. The hostel is beautifully situated, very simple and very cosy. There is no car access and the path is too steep for bikers. The autumnal, colourful garden welcomes us just as warmly as the two pretty sisters who run the farm.
