PRAGUE - THE CAPITAL OF THE TRAILS
The Czechs like to hike and share: mountain bikers are very welcome on the trails.
If you already think Vienna is great, you will rub your eyes even more in Prague: The Czech capital still has a completely preserved Gothic and Baroque cityscape, which is framed in the south and west by low mountain ranges almost 400 metres high - the playgrounds of the Prague mountain bike scene. The most popular trails at the moment are those on the Tocná, just ten kilometres from the city centre. The locals have already created their own trail map of this region, such is the richness of the terrain. The trails are often root-covered and rough, but they are countless.
Why? The Czechs are simply very keen hikers and bike-mad people. There is no road rights stress here.
Tours above the city If you're going on a tour with the locals in the Czech Republic, you need to be a good drinker. Bike & Beer, for example, is the name of one tour. Alcohol is not tolerated on bikes in the Czech Republic! The trails in the castle gardens are also an insider tip. Tourists are transported to the famous Karlstein Castle by bus. But there is also a trail tour along the river: 43 km/700 m; or along the Sazava with gorges and a spectacular train ride back over the gorge (60 km/1500 m); or the best four trails directly above the city with a shuttle, if desired.
