Last-minute holidays: On holiday with a mountain bike
Suddenly the holidays are just around the corner. It's a good thing that mountain bikers are flexible. Whether it's a multi-day tour through your home country or a road trip to the best trails: the rucksack is packed straight away.

Adventure at home: discover Germany by mountain bike

Discover your homeland by bike. Here are the direct links to the multi-day tours through the German low mountain ranges:

It takes four days to cross the Altmühl Valley from Gunzenhausen to Kehlheim. If you hurry, you can complete the 200 kilometres and 5550 metres of altitude difference high above the Altmühl in three days. But that would be a shame for the trails, which repeatedly offer views over the idyllic northern Bavarian landscape. Incidentally, an easy trail runs parallel to the riverbank without any metres in altitude. Families with different requirements could therefore meet up again in the stage towns. Both routes are fully signposted. To tour description and download

What the foothills of the Alps are to Bavaria, the Harz Mountains are to northern German bikers. With the difference that this 1142 metre high low mountain range has much more beautiful forest trails to offer. Over 155.7 kilometres and 4094 metres in altitude, the route takes you in three stages from Goslar via Torfhaus, Nordhausen and Drei-Annen-Hohne back to Goslar. Always on the most beautiful trails. Our circular tour through the Upper Palatinate Forest is divided into three stages. With a total of 200 kilometres and 4300 undulating metres in altitude, the tour may not be a leisurely ride, but it is definitely a great pleasure. This is because the single trail sections provide variety and a feeling of happiness time and again. The route leads from Waldershof through the most beautiful corners of the northern Bavarian low mountain range and along the Czech border back to Waldershof near Marktredwitz. The surface in the Upper Palatinate Forest changes every two minutes: dirt tracks, meadow trails, gravel tracks, root trails - if you get bored biking here, you're beyond help.Photo: Matthias Rotter The surface in the Upper Palatinate Forest changes every two minutes: dirt tracks, meadow trails, gravel tracks, root trails - if you get bored biking here, you're beyond help.

Mission Supertrail

There are trails that you've always wanted to ride. If only to finally be able to have a say at the regulars' table. Why not combine the best of the best on a road trip? Sleep in a motorhome, in a tent or simply under the stars in a particularly beautiful spot. This also makes a family trip through Switzerland affordable, as the super trails in the mountains of Davos, Lenzerheide and St. Moritz in particular are all within easy reach.

Here is the list of the articles that have appeared in BIKE Magazine so far SUPERTRAILS. These are the favourite trails of prominent mountain bikers, scattered all over the world.

These and other tips on mountain bike trips, mountain bike holidays and holiday planning for the whole family can be found in BIKE 9/2014 - from 5 August at newsagents, in the DK-Onlineshop and as a digital edition for all end devices.

Gitta Beimfohr joined the BIKE travel resort during her tourism studies when the Strada delle 52 Gallerie on the Pasubio was closed to mountain bikers. Since Gitta crossed the Alps twice at racing speed, she has favoured multi-day tours - by MTB in the Alps or by gravel bike through the German low mountain ranges.
