La Palma is the geologically youngest island in the Canary Islands. In the south, the small volcano Teneguia, which was only formed in 1971, is still smoking. "You can cycle here all year round," says Ottes Siedesberger from Allgäu, who has been showing cycling guests around the island for almost 30 years.
Due to its topography, La Palma is firmly in the focus of mountain hikers and mountain bikers. But in the age of e-bikes and the like, road cyclists are also discovering the winding mountain roads. Apart from the main route from Santa Cruz de la Palma to Los Llanos, car traffic on the side roads is limited. However, La Palma cyclists should always keep an eye on their battery level and the thermometer. The differences in altitude and temperature can be enormous, as the island stretches from the sea up to an altitude of almost 2,500 metres.
