The Hallertau in the centre of Bavaria is the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world. However, leisure cyclists do not have to complete the entire long tour through the hop hills. With the help of well-chosen connecting routes, interesting day trips can also be created, for example from Pfaffenhofen to Wolnzach, of course with a cultural stop at the German Hop Museum. Or from Neustadt an der Donau to Abensberg with a stop at Kuchlbauer's beer world with the famous Hundertwasser Tower and on to Biburg Monastery.
Another variation of the hop tour could be a side trip to the west or east of the Munich-Regensburg-Prague long-distance cycle route. In any case, beer is a must on a hop tour, for example during an extensive break in the Schlossallee in Freising, one of the largest beer gardens in Bavaria outside of Munich. The entire Hallertau Hops Tour runs along well-known, well-signposted cycle paths with little or no car traffic. In September and October, large folk festivals take place in the Hallertau, such as the Gillamoos in Abensberg and the Gallimarkt in Mainburg.
The GPX track for retracing the hop tour through the Hallertau is available free of charge on the MYBIKE tour portal:
