Lake Millstätter See is nestled in the gentle Nockberge mountains - if you climb a few metres in altitude, you can always enjoy a dreamlike backdrop. The villages are located on the northern shore of the lake, while the southern side is largely unspoilt. The townscape of Millstatt is characterised by Habsburg villas and a Benedictine monastery from the eleventh century.
High above Millstatt with a fantastic view of the lake is the Hotel Alexanderhof (www.alexanderhof.at). Cyclists can spend the night in very exclusive and unusual stylish wooden bivouacs. They are all located directly on the lake or on the mountain and offer unique views (www.biwak.millstaettersee.com).
As you can set off directly into the mountains from the shores of Lake Millstatt, the region has been focussing on e-bikes for years. There are nine hire stations around the lake where you can hire pedelecs. If you wish, you can also return the bike to another station. An overview of the hire points can be found at www.millstaettersee.com
Since 2018, there has been a major e-bike event at Lake Millstatt: "E-Motions". For three days, everything revolves around pedelecs. The event is organised by Millstätter See Tourismus GmbH in cooperation with Delius Klasing Verlag. More than 8,000 visitors attended the first event. E-bike fans can find out about the latest bikes, drive systems and accessories at around 30 exhibition stands. There will also be safety training sessions, guided tours, shows, a street food market and other side events. If you wish, you can travel by train and be taken comfortably to your accommodation. The Millstätter See cycle path - a perfect way to get to know Carinthia's second largest lake with its special special places.
You can find the GPX track for this tour in the MYBIKE Collection on komoot
Our tour starts in Millstatt and first heads west to the village of Seeboden. The picturesque Klingerpark is a good place for a first stop. The cycle path then leads along the almost undeveloped south side of the lake. After just under 20 kilometres, you reach Döbriach. The path then winds its way back to Millstatt with fantastic views of the lake.
On the south side of the lake, a challenging detour to the idyllically situated Egelsee is worthwhile. After the tour, cyclists can visit Carinthia's first bathhouse in Millstatt with great saunas, steam baths and a pool right by the lake.
The beautiful Gasthof Laggerhof with beer garden on the Süduferweg is perfectly located halfway along the tour. In Millstatt, the "Kap 4613" is a tip. The striking café-bistro in the shape of a wooden pyramid sits on an island construction in the lake. The L'Onda restaurant is part of the Millstatt bathhouse and offers regional dishes from Carinthian Alps-Adriatic cuisine.
The steep climb from Lake Millstätter See to the "Sternenbalkon" viewpoint is a tough one. But the panorama is worth every drop of sweat.

The starting point is the Tschinder lido in Döbriach. A tarmac road leads up to the village of Glanz. At the end of the village, take a sharp left onto Gschrieter Straße, which winds its way up a meadow slope. The Bergfried mountain inn and the Sternenbalkon are located at 1,127 metres.
The starry balcony offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Millstatt and the Nockberge mountains. You should take your time to visit this magical place.
Hungry cyclists can of course have a snack at Berggasthof Bergfried - or order a picnic basket with Carinthian specialities and drinks in advance (www.bergfried.net). On the way back to Döbriach, you should stop off at Charly's See-Lounge on the shores of Lake Millstätter See. The location is perfect for a sundowner. After the tour, you can also enjoy local fish or other Carinthian specialities in the cosy wicker furniture.
