Many people just cycle through here from Merano to Bolzano and continue along the Via Claudia Augusta along the Adige towards the Adriatic. A detour to the vineyards between Terlano/Terlan and Termeno/Tramin would be well worthwhile, and not just because of the good wine that thrives here and is served in countless cosy wineries and inns.
Beyond the wine, excursions to the church of St. Pauls/Eppan and Hocheppan Castle are recommended. The most exciting of many, as more than 180 castles, palaces and noble residences characterise the lovely landscape around Appiano/Eppan on the South Tyrolean Wine Road. And if it gets a little too rural for your taste, we recommend a bike trip to the nearby provincial capital of Bolzano for shopping, feasting or sightseeing. You can also see the famous "Ötzi" in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology.
The cycling infrastructure is very good with many tarmac, well signposted cycle paths. The terrain is hilly to mountainous away from the Adige Valley, but the cycle paths usually have tolerable gradients.
