Not only the paths are the destination. Mysterious castles, tranquil wine villages and velvety red wines enchant visitors to Blaufränkischland and beyond. Here are two tour suggestions:

CYCLING IN THE SUNSHINE

Central Burgenland means enjoyable tours through the gentle wine-growing hills around the small wine-growing villages or historically interesting excursions into the Austro-Hungarian border region, where there are many quiet villages and secluded landscapes, but certainly no tourist hustle and bustle. If you are looking for something completely different, simply swap your bike for a draisine - cycling on rails on a former railway line, so to speak. Active fun for the whole family, especially for those who complete the entire 23 kilometres from Deutschkreutz to Oberpullendorf.

RADSERVICE

E-bike hire at the Deutschkreutz Tourist Office, at the Sonnenland Draisinentour and at the 2-Rad-Center Rainer in Oberpullendorf (bicycles are also repaired here).
Bike hire including at the Thermenhotel Kurz, the Hotel Sonnenpark and the Pension Apfelhof in Lutzmannsburg. Guided e-bike tours are offered in cooperation with the Deutschkreutz tourism association, e.g. to the region's most beautiful chapels, wayside crosses and wayside shrines, or a tour to the best vineyards including a small wine tasting.

Tour 5 Sonnenlandtour T2, 70 km

Red wine and warm water - an extended day trip through the gently undulating Blaufränkisch region, then along the Roman Amber Road to the thermal spa in Lutzmannsburg

THE TOUR

The Sonnenland T2 route may not be the shortest, but it is easy to manage on the mostly tarmac country roads through forests and vineyards. In addition, the wine-growing villages are dotted with wine taverns and rustic inns for a culinary stop for a spritzer (wine with mineral water) and a snack. To round off the tour, we recommend a relaxing visit to the Lutzmannsburg thermal spa or a more or less extensive wine tasting in a winery or one of the well-stocked local wine shops in Blaufränkischland.

VISUAL VALUE

Flag-waving and viticulture museum Neckenmarkt has had the imperial privilege of flying the flag since a battle in 1622. The historic flags are up to three metres high and weigh 50 kilograms.
Carl Goldmark Museum The composer's original home in Deutschkreutz has been converted into a museum. Lackenbach Castle A worthwhile detour to the modern nature museum in the former moated castle of the Esterhazys

Tour 6 Red wine cycle path, 35 km

Family-friendly tour through Blaufränkischland - on the best trails through the well-tended vineyards around the villages of Neckenmarkt, Raiding, Deutschkreutz and Horitschon

THE TOUR

The name says it all. Red wine, especially Blaufränkisch, leads the way through the vines to the charming wine-growing villages. There are no climbs, but apart from a few metres of forest path, you always cycle on asphalted country and municipal roads. The various wineries and wine bars are tempting - it is best to plan a wine tasting at the end of the tour. You can get a taster beforehand by stopping for a snack in a wine tavern.
