Turkey is still a relatively blank spot on cycling maps. Thanks to Roman Knorr, a 30-year-old landscape architect, cyclists with a bit of an adventurous spirit can now discover the hinterland of the Turkish Riviera. He has mapped out a 260-kilometre route with a GPS device and divided it into five stages. The route runs from Antalya to Side on little-used tarmac roads and gravel paths. Away from the tourist hustle and bustle, the Pamphylian Trail leads past ancient sites such as Perge and Aspendos with their remarkable excavations. The climbs are moderate, only on the way to Serik is a little more fitness required. Overnight accommodation in the villages is limited; supplies are not guaranteed en route, even if the locals are extremely hospitable and are happy to invite you for lunch, you should have enough provisions and drinking water with you.
