240 kilometres to Iceland's natural phenomena
Bubbling earth, hot springs, the acrid smell of sulphur: Iceland impresses with its unique natural phenomena.

A cycle tour through Iceland is an excursion into the history of the earth. Cyclists embarking on the "Golden Circle" are treated to an impressive 240 kilometres. From the capital Reykjavik, the route first takes you on side roads to the Thingvellir National Park, a fairytale landscape of lava rock and moss-covered hills. The American and European tectonic plates are drifting apart here in deep fissures. The journey continues to the world-famous Strokkur geyser, which still regularly spouts its fountain into the air, and to the thundering Gullfoss waterfall. Tip: Tired cyclists' legs can relax in one of the many nature baths.

Character:
Iceland does not have a well-developed network of cycle paths. However, there is relatively little traffic on the side roads. As the distances are often long, it is advisable to plan your tour carefully or take a tour organised by a tour operator. You should also take a robust touring bike and good weather protection.

Tour tip:
7-day cycle tour on the "Golden Circle". 7x B&B, luggage transport and transfers, from approx. 1900 euros. www.bikecompany.is
