At the moment, the trails are still being worked on at full speed. After all, the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is celebrating a big bike season opening party for the first time. Of course, everything should be perfect, says Christian Heitmann, trail head shaper for the region and co-organiser of the two-day festival. However, nerves are likely to be a little tense.
The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena was one of the first regions in Austria to open trails for mountain bikers. To this day, these descents are celebrated above all for their naturalness. There are no crushed sand tracks murmuring through the forest here, but real enduro gems.
Trails that have been maintained but not deprived of their natural obstacles. So far, you've always had to deal with a marvellously wild alternation of roots, steps, sharp-angled changes of direction and sometimes even scree-covered steep slides.
Will this still be the case after the major facelift of the trail network? Of course, such trails need care. But also a fingertip feeling. Even the word "trail maintenance" is likely to make die-hard fans of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena gasp. But local Christian Heitmann is certain that he and his trail crew have managed the balancing act.
After all, the region is well aware of its unique selling point of "natural trails". Nevertheless, the time had come to restore the trails to the best possible condition, install a few modern modules and make it easier for less experienced bikers to get started. So you can be really excited.
The Grubigstein in Lermoos and the Marienberg in Biberwier will be part of the Gravity Card from this summer, making them one of the 30 "Leading Bikeparks" in Europe. During the two days of the Bike Opening, there will also be special rates for hourly, day or multi-day tickets. For example, the day ticket for adults will cost just 32 euros instead of 40 euros on these two days. Young people pay only 32 euros instead of 37.50 euros (including bike transport).
The big party in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena will take place on Ascension Day, from 29 to 30 May 2025. In addition to lots of action on the new trails, there will also be an expo area with bike exhibitors. A pump track will also be set up, Tyrolean specialities to eat and drink will be served and to keep the party atmosphere going, the whole thing will be fuelled by music acts.
