From tarmac to gravel paths and vice versa: in Salzburger Land there are special, easy off-road tours that are perfect for gravel bikes or hardtails.

Gravel biking is the new trend on the bike scene. The "racing bike" with studded tyres is versatile and even cuts a fine figure on easy mountain bike trails. The very well-developed cycle and bike path network in Salzburger Land is therefore the ideal playground for gravel bikers.

Some regions have already catered for off-road adventurers and offer their own gravel routes. In doing so, they are drawing on a cycling infrastructure that has been very well developed for years. Gravel biking in Austria's largest bike region

The flat sections of the Steinbergrunde or those on the newly built cycle path through the Glemmtal valley can be ideally combined with the MTB trail network of Austria's largest bike region Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The result is Gravel routes ranging from easy to difficult and sounding names such as "Gravel-Devil" or "Dusty Ride". Gravel bikers should also think outside the box in the extensive region and consider tours to Lake Zell or towards the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Gravel bikers can currently find a total of eight routes on the interactive map of the region. With a little spirit of adventure and discovery, there are still many hidden routes to discover around Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Saalfelden and Leogang.

All good things come in eights

The Salzburger Saalachtal is perfect for gravel bikers. Many easy bike tours can also be ridden on a "gravel road bike" for the most part, and a wide range of refreshment stops in the form of rustic huts invite you to take an extended break. There is also the cycle path through the Salzburger Saalachtal, which extends the radius of action. One of the most beautiful Touring is the "Grim Eight". With 55 kilometres and 1360 metres in altitude, the day tour leads from Lofer through the Salzburger Saalachtal valley and over the Aschauersattel to neighbouring Schneizlreuth. Back in Reit, the route takes you up the Obermayrberg and on to the Hundalm before rolling back to Lofer via St. Martin.

Gravel fun in the Hohe Tauern National Park

The many gravel and forest roads in Oberpinzgau are the ideal playground for gravel bikers who are used to the mountains. In addition, the high peaks of the Hohe Tauern provide the perfect setting for a gravel excursion into the alpine landscape. Gravel bikers can ride around Mittersill choose from seven official gravel routes. The tour into the Hollersbachtal valley leads right into the heart of the national park and impresses with a breathtaking panorama of the highest peaks of the Hohe Tauern. There are also challenging tours around Mittersill, Hollersbach and Stuhlfelden that wind their way up above the Salzach Valley.

Gravel paradise Tennengau

The region south of the city of Salzburg is an insider tip for gravel bikers. The mountains there are not too rugged and the large number of forest roads and gravel paths make every gravel biker's heart beat faster. A very special Marathon tour leads from Abtenau through the Osterhorn group to the Genneralmen and the Postalm. In Austria's largest Alpine pasture region, a new natural highlight awaits around every corner. Deep forests, rushing streams or a rustic hut - there is plenty to discover on the tour, even off the beaten track. Another tip is the Gravel tour up to the idyllic Seewaldsee lake. At the highest point of the tour, bikers can take a cool dip before heading back towards Abtenau.
