And if the coronavirus doesn't throw a spanner in the works, we'll officially be allowed to cross the Austrian border again from 15 June. These are the changes that we can look forward to for the 2020 MTB season in Saalbach expect:
The bike regions of Saalbach, Leogang and Fieberbrunn have joined forces. From now on, you can use one ticket to get on six cable cars in Saalbach, two in Leogang and one in Fieberbrunn. Two of them, the Westgipfel-Bahn and now also the Schattberg Sprinter, shuttle you directly up to the Westgipfel. The tedious remaining climb to the start of the legendary Hacklberg Trail is therefore a thing of the past.
In addition, the entire network of bike park routes and trails now measures 70 kilometres. Some lines have been revised and rerouted, others extended. For example, the Buchegg Trail now curves 1000 metres down into the valley. Also Leogang has updated its world championship trails, which were only opened last year. The Steinberg flowline alone is a whopping ten kilometres long and will delight every beginner with its sweeping curves. For the three other descents, on the other hand, you should have some experience with steps and roots. A new version of the Schwarzleo trail will be built from the beginning of July. Or you can let off steam in the 5000 square metre pump track area at the Asitzbahn valley station. Here, too, the world champions are expected to be bending their elbows on the tarmac bends in October. On the other hand, you can experience far less hustle and bustle but pure nature on the signposted routes of Fieberbrunn. Plenty of space for bikers, so keeping the distance rules should not be a problem.
Season: 11 June to 26 October 2020
Day ticket: 45 Euro
UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Leogang: 7-11 October 2020 (downhill, cross country, e-MTB and pump track)
