In winter, the Zillertal mountains are one big ski arena. But in summer, bikers have the trails across the high alpine pastures to themselves. A hut tour in the middle of the main Alpine ridge.
The Schmirntal, a forgotten corner just off the Brenner Pass, gives us an idea of what the Alps might have looked like fifty years ago. Small villages with only a few inhabitants, hardly any tarmac roads, lots of cows. Only a few tourists get lost here and those who do come are absolute nature lovers: hikers and bikers in summer, ski tourers in winter.
