Big mountain freeriding between Allgäu and Vorarlberg: countless mountain trails wind through the slopes of Kleinwalsertal. They have so much flow and kick that they even attract the trail-spoilt celebrity biker Wade Simmons. We present the five best ones here.

To Kleinwalsertal? You're taking high mountain boots with you!" "No Grandpa, trainers!" The valley between Allgäu and Voralberg is familiar to older generations as an alpine hiking area. As an old freeriding rule says that rocky hiking trails are always good bike trails too, I travel confidently to the "functional exclave" of Kleinwalsertal. (This unfunny term describes the peculiarity that although the valley belongs to Austria, it can only be reached by car from Germany). Living proof of the correctness of this rule is Wade Simmons, who is making a detour to Kleinwalsertal for the fifth time and now knows every boulder there. Mario "Tschäputscheino" Lenzen and the small Stratmann family are also part of the party.

Kleinwalsertal is not a colourful fun sports arena, the focus is on low-impact tourism. Freeriders should be able to enjoy the many lifts that the valley has to offer, but they won't be able to unlearn how to crank themselves up: the lifts are closed to bikers after 9am. It is therefore ideal to combine an early big mountain tour with a self-powered quickie in the afternoon. If you are travelling on an enduro bike, you can of course do without the lift rides, which are not cheap anyway.
