Transporting tools on the bike is practical. But with many solutions, the tools are exposed to the weather without protection. Bags and boxes that can be attached to the frame are the clean alternative for stowing your puncture repair tools. We have tested three options.

Wolf Tooth B-Rad TekLite Roll-Top Bag 0.6L

Wolftooth offers a whole range of holders, extensions and bags via its B-Rad system, with which the bottle cage holes can also be used for tools and the like. The TekLite roll bag is particularly practical. With a volume of 0.6 litres, it can hold a complete service kit consisting of a mini tool, tyre lever and spare tube or provisions and valuables. Thanks to the roll closure, it protects the contents from dirt and moisture. The bag can be easily strapped onto the stylish aluminium holder plate, which is attached to the holes for the bottle cage. Another option is to simply clip the TekLite bag to the frame. To ensure a secure fit, the Velcro fastener is fitted with a rubber coating at the position on the frame. The bag is then securely fastened even in heavy downhills. Because the volume can be adjusted depending on how full it is using the roll-top fastener, the contents do not rattle during the ride. If you need a little more storage space, the TekLite Bag is also available with a volume of 1 litre.

Fidlock is known for its practical magnetic fasteners. The self-closing clips can now be found on helmet buckles, bottle cages, hipbags and also on this practical tool box. The magnetic holder of the toolbox can be attached anywhere on the frame using elastic TPU straps without blocking the bottle cage. Fitting is quick and easy, but the strap fasteners protrude unsightly from the frame and may need to be shortened. The rounded soft case itself is made of waterproof material and thus protects the contents particularly well from the adversities of a bike tour.

Space for a small workshop

The small box holds 400 millilitres, which is easily enough for a spare inner tube, mini tool, tyre levers and smaller spare parts. Organiser compartments and eyelets keep things tidy. However, you have to be strategic when packing: Even a 29er inner tube fills the underside completely. Due to the rigid design, the box is difficult to close when packed incorrectly. Too sparsely packed and the utensils rattle through the pannier on root passages. A small cloth, for example, can be used as filling material. You can also use it to clean your hands after screwing. Handling the magnetic holder is intuitive and secure. However, when fully loaded, the toolbox wobbles considerably when locked. Due to its appearance, the Fidlock bag is probably more of a solution for touring bikers than for trail and enduro junkies.

Canyon Frame Bag

The frame bag was actually designed for the new Spectral AL. Here it fits perfectly into the front frame triangle via additional bottle cage holes. However, the handy bag also fits all other standard bottle cage mounts. The bag with its waterproof zip only has room for the essentials: a mini-tool, tyre levers and a bar - and you're all set. Alternatively, the retaining plate with the strap can also be used without the bag - for example to transport a spare inner tube. Because the bag can be compressed slightly using Velcro, the contents do not rattle unnecessarily while riding.

Equipment and details

  • For the top tube screw points of the Canyon Spectral AL or any bottle cage hole
  • Holder can also be used without bag for spare tube
  • Waterproof zip fastener
  • Weight: 66 grammes
  • Price: 34,95 Euro
