Interest in a secure wall mount for bicycles that is also lockable is said to have been huge. So those responsible at the British lock manufacturer Hiplok decided to develop the Airlok wall mount. Per Kickstarter campaign the £70000 (approx. 82,000 euros) required for the series launch was collected. 318 supporters will now be supplied with the first Airlok hooks from the beginning of 2017.
The inner construction of the triangular wall bracket is made of hardened steel. Once it is attached to the wall with four thick screws, heavy equipment is needed to remove it. The cladding, available in red, white and steel-grey, conceals the rustic interior, while a thick lockable steel bolt secures the suspended wheel against thieves. At least the frame.
It is very easy to use: the coded key is used to unlock the locking bolt from below, which then releases the claw-shaped holder into which the frame is simply hooked. This is lined with rubber so that the frame rests securely and non-slip on the top tube to protect it from scratches until it is used again. Bolt it back up, lock it and you're done. Anyone wanting to steal a bike secured in this way will need heavy equipment and will probably have to take the Airlok wall bracket and parts of the wall with them.
Do you want to know if your frame is compatible with the Airlok? If you can find space under the top tube for a rectangle measuring 150 x 60 millimetres, everything should fit. The maximum top tube width is 60 millimetres.
Hiplok is confident that it will be able to deliver the Airlok lockable wall mount to specialist retailers by the end of spring 2017. Price: 129.99 pounds sterling (just over 150 euros). Further information and pre-orders via the manufacturer's website www.hiplok.com.
