No water connection, no electricity, no problem! The Ryobi One+ EZClean battery cleaner draws water from almost any source. This means you can wash your bike anywhere and at any time. Does the device from the Japanese power tool specialist also impress in practice? We found out.

Even though many bikers may not be familiar with the Ryobi brand, DIY enthusiasts and homeowners are likely to recognise the Japanese manufacturer. There is now an immense range of over 200 garden equipment and tools that can be operated with the 18V One+ battery system. The grass-green products generally impress with their good price-performance ratio. Does this also apply to the cordless medium pressure cleaner from Ryobi?

The equipment - extensive but not complete

The box naturally contains the gun, which is similar to a cordless screwdriver and is powered by a brushless motor. The extension lance and 3-in-1 nozzle are attached to the front instead of bits. The battery is classically located underneath the handle. Top: The Japanese include two compact 2.5 Ah batteries with the set. This should easily provide enough runtime for your own and your mates' bikes.

In addition to the charger with a clear display, there is also a 6 metre long suction hose with filter and a connection to the cleaner bottle, which can be used to cover the bike with an impressive carpet of foam. What we are still missing is a canister that can be transported in the car when full and a bag in which the device can be stored. Anyone who values these details should take a look at the recent View Stihl cordless cleaner tested by us.

Working with the Ryobi EZClean

What is immediately noticeable during the first assembly: To protect the battery from splashing water, it sits behind a bulky plastic cover - like in a Tupperware box. The attachment is far too large for the battery supplied, but it offers the option of using larger batteries from the Ryobi range. When inserting the battery, it snaps into place cleanly, but the housing now covers most of the charge level indicator.

Flexible use - even with a garden hose

The EZClean can also be connected to a normal garden hose via the ¾" coupling. If you don't have this option, you can simply draw the water from a bucket, streams or rivers. Even better, of course, would be a sealable canister that could also be transported in the car.

The scope of delivery also includes an attachment with which the EZClean can be used on PET bottles. Please do not accidentally use it for the cleaner bottle and for lathering the bike. Otherwise the Ryobi will drain the cleaner like a thirsty baby draws its bottle. There is an extra foam pot in the accessories for this purpose.

Powerful cleaning while protecting materials and the environment - not all bike cleaners can do this. We have carried out extensive laboratory and practical tests to find out which of these 12 dirt removers are really worth the money.

Handling: quite heavy in the long run

The EZClean has three different pressure levels, the middle one of which is sufficient for most dirt. At the highest level, the nozzle shoots even nasty dirt off the bike. However, the battery then suffers. The Ryobi runs out of juice after just over eight minutes. It's a good thing that a replaceable battery is included in the set.

Three spray modes can be set on the nozzle with a slight twist, but only one is really suitable for bike washing. The Ryobi's weak point is its heavy weight. With the battery and motor integrated in the gun, the device feels heavy in the hand after just a few minutes.

The nozzle offers a total of three modes. Simply turn the nozzle head to select the appropriate settingThe nozzle offers a total of three modes. Simply turn the nozzle head to select the appropriate setting

With the long aluminium lance, you are at a good distance from the bike and are largely protected from splash water. However, you can't reach the hard-to-reach corners of the bike easily. The lance also wobbles significantly in its holder. Overall, the workmanship and materials are not at the top level.

Conclusion

With the Ryobi EZClean, you get a powerful cordless cleaner that effortlessly removes even nasty dirt. We liked the fact that the Ryobi draws water from various sources and can therefore be used very flexibly. Less convincing is the battery performance: after just over eight minutes, the replacement battery has to be used. Even after the first cleaned bike, the gun with integrated battery and motor feels heavy in the hand and the long lance sits wobbly in the holder. For the rather sporty price of 279 euros, we would also have liked a slightly higher quality finish.
