My "hand squeeze pressure estimation" skills are limited. Without a measuring device, I'm pretty much at a loss. That can be annoying, especially with defects in the terrain. You're thinking: "First world problem"? Right, but the turbo-capitalism engine has to run somehow. The fact that for a 10 digital pressure tester e.g. from Schwalbe, I'm going to ignore that for now.
So: The TyreWiz (the? the?) is about the size of a (tradesman's) thumbnail and screwed in without any problems. The matching app (hooray, another app!) connects quickly. You can then define the pressure ranges for the front and rear - either based on the programme's suggestions or at your own discretion. The recommendation tool compares the rider and bike weight, wheel size and tyre dimensions and then recommends a specific bar (or PSI) for the Air pressure in MTB tyres. However, as the system does not know the terrain formation, tyre wall thickness or riding style, the recommendations are only of limited practical use. So it's better to decide for yourself based on experience and start pumping. Once you have reached the desired pressure, the displays in the app and the diodes in TyreWiz turn green and flash every second. If the pressure is too low, it flashes more slowly in red; if it is too high, it flashes more rapidly. This also works without a mobile phone after the first adjustment.
I had the TyreWiz system on my tubeless bike all winter and into the spring. The diodes flashed reliably and reminded me to pump up my tyres 2 to 3 times a week. On one tour it was very practical because after a flat tyre I simply kept pumping until it flashed green. All in all, a reliable gadget.
So buy it? Well, with the Schwalbe Airmax Pro pressure tester for the aforementioned 10 euros, the tyre pressure check works just as well. For the price of 250 euros, the TyreWiz should release excess pressure automatically, or clean the bike after the tour or something. But it doesn't do that. So if you're not as obsessed with technology as I am, you'll be fine without the TyreWiz system.
STRENGTHS Reliable
WEAKNESSES Expensive
Expensive high-tech gadget for technology freaks. Replaces the competitor's €10 measuring device for 25 times the price. Nothing more.
