Once upon a time, not so long ago, people played Tetris on their first computer. The aim was to quickly organise bulky shapes trickling down from above to save space. An instructive time: Tetris experts can hide a bike in a wardrobe or behind a shoe rack in seconds. Everyone else is still looking for safe, practical and, at best, attractive storage options. This is mostly about saving space: the 70 centimetre handlebar width of a bike leaning against the wall is extremely bulky. They protrude into the air exactly where hands swing, hips gyrate and there should actually be room for waste paper. The simplest trick is to move the problem to the less utilised air space. Anything hanging on the wall or under the ceiling doesn't need precious floor space.
Whether the bike should hang horizontally or vertically is not just a matter of taste: hooks for vertical storage attach to the rims. They are therefore suitable for practically any bike, regardless of frame shape or tyre width. If you don't want to lift your bike quite so high, it's better to store it horizontally. This also looks better - for the show in the living room...
