The Deutsche Verkehrswacht brochure has been translated into 10 languages.
The German road safety organisation Deutsche Verkehrswacht has published a guide for parents on mobility education for their children. The brochure on cycling education at school is available as a free download in ten languages.

The information is primarily aimed at parents of primary school children as a supplement to cycle training at school. The aim is to involve parents in cycle training and give them an overview of the skills their child needs to ride a bike. There is also basic information about roadworthy cycling, cycle helmets, an overview of the most important road signs for cyclists and tips for practising together with your child.

Children love cycling. To ensure that they are safe on the road, cycle training prepares them for independent participation as cyclists in road traffic. Cycling training is organised jointly by the school and the police and usually takes place in the 4th school year.

At the age of 9 or 10, children have sufficient skills to take part in road traffic on a bicycle. However, they still lack the necessary experience and are quickly overwhelmed, especially when faced with multiple challenges.

Learning to ride a bike is a gradual development

The more often children ride, the better! Children learn safe behaviour best where they know their way around and ride every day. Nowhere else do they gain as much useful experience as on short trips in their home and school environment. They get to know the situations that are important for their participation in traffic by bike.
