Münster most popular city among road users
Where are pedestrians, public transport users, car drivers and cyclists satisfied, and where are they not? The ADAC monitor can serve as a basis for optimising mobility planning.

Residents, commuters and visitors in Münster are the most satisfied with their personal mobility situation. This is the result of the latest ADAC monitor "Mobil in der Stadt" (Mobile in the city): the comprehensive study analyses people's satisfaction with their mobility situation in 29 medium-sized cities. The ratings of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users are considered individually and combined to form an overall index. Mönchengladbach is in last place in the rankings.

A look at the overall result shows that the frontrunners - Münster followed by Rostock and Oldenburg - achieve a relatively high level of satisfaction across all modes of transport. In the cities at the bottom of the rankings, on the other hand, all people who travel there - no matter how - are more critical. ADAC Traffic President Gerhard Hillebrand: "These results show the importance of integrated transport planning that takes into account the interests of all road users."

Across all cities, satisfaction is highest among pedestrians and public transport users. Satisfaction is somewhat lower among cyclists. Car drivers are the least satisfied with their personal mobility situation in all cities.

Road user behaviour also part of the survey

The negative assessment of cyclists' behaviour by pedestrians and motorists is striking. However, there is also room for improvement in the assessment of the behaviour of motorists by cyclists and in the behaviour of motorists towards each other - in this ratio, satisfaction and dissatisfaction are barely in balance.

ADAC Traffic President Hillebrand: "In order to improve the traffic climate, it is necessary to supplement construction measures on roads and cycle paths with campaigns and public relations work in order to involve citizens in the measures. Furthermore, respect and mutual consideration should be a matter of course for all road users."

Road users in Mönchengladbach are the least satisfied with their personal mobility situation. The city ranks 29th and therefore last, well behind Krefeld and Wuppertal. Nevertheless, satisfaction with personal mobility is also predominant in these municipalities, as all three still receive a positive index value in the evaluation. In Mönchengladbach, however, there is almost one dissatisfied road user for every satisfied road user.

Around 12,000 interviews were analysed in the representative online survey. The ADAC Monitor can provide cities with a basis for optimising their mobility planning and tailoring it to the needs of users.
