At the end of April, the award was presented to projects and the people behind them who are committed to improving cycling with a great deal of passion and innovative ideas.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer, Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition of the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Claus Ruhe Madsen, Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock and Christine Fuchs, Chairman of the Working Group of Pedestrian and Bicycle Friendly Cities, Municipalities and Districts in NRW (AGFS), presented the winning prizes at the digital National Cycling Congress in Hamburg.

Category Service

1st place: "Using digitalisation: GPS cycling data for a holistic cycling strategy" in the Hannover region

Laudator Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition of the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg: "Valid traffic data can help municipalities, cities and local authorities to better plan their cycling infrastructure and improve it for the benefit of cyclists. The project in Hanover skilfully combines the pleasant with the useful: The bike app is used to collect anonymised digital data on the cycling behaviour of cyclists, while at the same time creating incentives for cycling by rewarding cyclists. In the end, everyone benefits: the data collected can be used to plan, connect and improve cycle routes more easily based on their actual use - which in turn benefits cyclists. I am impressed by the digital approach, which involves collecting GPS cycling data and extrapolating and analysing it for the entire cycling population in order to implement targeted cycling measures."

Families have the opportunity to test different bicycle modules free of charge, e.g. bicycle trailers, cargo bikes, child seats, walking bikes and children's bikes. The focus is on children's mobility and counselling for parents.
