Company bike: strong demand for bike leasing
Lease a Bike has commissioned a study on the status quo of company bike leasing among employees.
Almost two thirds of all employees would like to lease a company bike. This was the result of a Statista survey commissioned by the provider "Lease a Bike".

Sustainable mobility models are becoming increasingly popular and present - and yet the data available on the subject of company car leasing is still very thin on the ground. For this reason Lease a Bike together with Statista, one of the leading providers of market and consumer data, investigated the mobility behaviour of 530 male and 470 female employees with regard to bicycle leasing.

The aim of the study was to gain knowledge about the use of the means of transport for commuting to work or leisure, the importance of the bicycle and the importance of the bicycle as a means of transport. Service bikes and the relevance of the sustainability factor when choosing a means of transport. In addition, the interest in and use of bicycle leasing was to be analysed. The willingness to lease, but also knowledge barriers and the need for information were determined.

"Thanks to this study, we now have a better understanding of the interests and usage behaviour of employees with regard to the company bike leasing concept," says Christian Wölbern, Managing Director of Lease a Bike. "We now know that the demand for sustainable mobility services is continuing to grow and that the younger generation in particular is more than happy to embrace green mobility concepts - which makes us very happy! However, we have also recognised that there are still significant gaps in knowledge that we need to fill. Green mobility is more relevant than ever and our aim is to ensure that as many employees in Germany and Europe as possible are aware of sustainable mobility options such as company bike leasing and, ideally, take advantage of them."

There is still room for improvement when it comes to awareness of the service bike concept: Almost one in two people are not yet familiar with the concept. One in four (23%) state that their company offers a company car leasing scheme. This proportion shows a positive trend as the number of employees increases. Of all respondents whose companies offer an employee leasing concept, almost one in three (29%) also use the service - among younger employees, the figure is as high as 42%. 97% of users are satisfied with the concept. Service bike users are particularly impressed by the all-round protection packages and the opportunity to get a bike at a fair price. Of those who are not offered company bike leasing, 59% said that they would like to have such a programme. Here too, interest is strongest among 18 to 29-year-olds (76%).

The main reasons for using a company bike are the full use in leisure time (33%), the all-round protection insurance (27%) and the wide selection of bike models (27%). What prevents most respondents from (continuing to) use them is the lack of company bikes in their company (68%) or the long distance to work (34%). Almost one in two could imagine using a company bike in the future. The core target groups here are 18- to 29-year-olds (55%) and 30- to 49-year-olds (53%). In contrast, 91% of users are convinced that they will continue to use a company bike. In conclusion, it was found that health and environmental aspects (66% each) were the most important factors for respondents when using a service bike.
