Automatic transmissions on e-bikes offer a great deal of convenience. With the Rockrider E-ACTV 900, Decathlon is now equipping a second bike with its own Owuru motor-gearbox unit, which can shift gears independently. The new e-trekking bike also makes a very travel-friendly impression in other respects.

The new Rockrider E-ACTV 900 from Decathlon aims to come a whole lot closer to the ideal of the carefree bike. A bike that you simply have to get on and pedal, and then just let the landscape pass you by.

To achieve this, the French sports outfitter is installing a motor-gear unit (MGU) on its new city bike, as Pinion also offers in a similar formexcept that the Owuru MGU is a proprietary solution. The automatic transmission takes care of shifting gears itself - leaving more time to enjoy the ride.

Decathlon relies on automatic transmission for second e-bike

The Owuru motor used here is already known from the B'TWIN E-Citybike LD 920E automatic. Decathlon is now relying on this e-drive for a second model with the new E-ACTV 900 e-trekking bike. On the technical side, it is equipped with a dual motor system and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is designed to enable smooth and carefree pedalling. To this end, 8 sensors monitor the power and speed in order to optimally adapt the motor behaviour to the respective riding situation.

The rider sets the desired cadence from 40 to 90 revolutions per minute, and the Owuru automatic transmission automatically adjusts the load to external factors such as gradients, headwinds or terrain. Even hill starts should be effortless.

Rockrider E-ACTV 900: Range for long tours

The Rockrider E-ACTV 900 has a 48 V lithium-ion battery with 694 Wh capacity from Samsung integrated into the frame, which according to Decathlon should enable a range of up to 130 km. You can choose between four support modes: Eco (+100%), Tour (+180%), Sport (+280%) and Turbo (+370%).

Compared to other current e-MTB motors, the torque of 65 Nm is in the middle range, but is sufficiently generous for the intended use so that overcoming inclines with a trailer and luggage is no obstacle.

Connectivity through the Decathlon Ride app

With the Decathlon Ride app, riders can not only control the automatic mode described above, but also plan and track their route and chat with the development team, Servicepoint dates and access maintenance instructions and spare parts.

The display on the handlebars shows real-time information such as time, battery status, support mode, cadence, remaining range, distance and speed. A clever feature is the automatic day and night mode. The Rockrider E-ACTV 900 also comes with a USB-C charging port for your smartphone or sat nav.

Components on the Rockrider trekking e-bike

The Rockrider trekking e-bike is equipped with hydraulic Tektro 160 mm disc brakes - but a 180 mm disc at the front would certainly provide even more superior braking power. The Rockrider Protect+ tyres with double puncture protection are designed to minimise the risk of a puncture.

The standard equipment with a fixed front and rear light from Herrmans together with reflector strips on the tyres is also good. Another practical feature is the parking light function, which keeps the lights on for up to four minutes after stopping. The Explora saddle from Selle Royal with special Royalgel, ergonomic grips and the oversized handlebars, whose position can be adjusted from -10 to +60 degrees, offer comfort on long tours.

A luggage rack (MIK system) is fitted for the bags that you may have with you on such trips or on the way to work and is designed for up to 27 kg - child seats can also be attached there. The Rockrider E-ACTV 900 is equipped with an integrated aluminium kickstand for a secure parking position or when loading.

The mudguards, which are so useful in everyday life, complete the equipment on this e-bike. And if you want to transport your children or even more equipment on a bike tour, the ACTV 900 is compatible with various bike trailers.
