We don't just write about biking, we are also active ourselves. At the Riva BIKE Festival 2022, some of the faces of the BIKE team and the EMTB team were on the starting line.

In the start and finisher lists of the Scott BIKE Marathon and the E-MTB Challenge you will find some names, pseudonyms and faces from the BIKE and EMTB team. The answers to the questions Who? Why? How was it? can be read here!

Editor-in-Chief BIKE Henri Lesewitz

BIKE editor-in-chief Henri Lesewitz led the Tremalzo Legends Tour on the Friday of the festival as part of the BIKE Academy. On Saturday, he was at the start line of the Ronda Extrema of the Scott BIKE Marathon. This year, he opted for his custom hardtail from the Leipzig frame manufacturer Unique Bicycles. He completed the 82.77 kilometre route with 3,484 metres of elevation gain in a similar time to last time, when he started with a fully. Last time he was slower on the climbs, but faster on the descents with the full-suspension bike. This year, he turned the tables: fast uphill and a little more leisurely downhill - just as the bike allowed. Many were particularly impressed that Henri Lesewitz posted a story or two on Instagram during the race.

Test laboratory manager Christoph Allwang

Christoph Allwang heads up the test lab. On Saturday, he set off on the Ronda Grande of the Scott BIKE Marathon. The lap is 59.56 kilometres long and there are 2,406 metres of altitude to conquer.

Dominik Scherer is part of the Testlab team. Like Henri Lesewitz, he is also competing in the Ronda Extrema. If you want to find his name in the results list, you won't be successful in your search, because Dominik started under his pseudonym Hans Wurst.

Sandra Schuberth from the online editorial team chose the Ronda Grande. Her last time on an MTB was three years ago. But that didn't put her off: Travelling to Riva just for the Womens Tech Talk workshop? Nothing for Sandra, she also wanted to do some active biking herself. With a test bike from Canyon, the Lux Trail CF 9 Emily Batty, she conquered the climbs and rode down most of the descents. Her conclusion: "If I had seen the descents beforehand, I probably wouldn't have started. But in race mode, I had the confidence to ride most of the downhill sections.

Of course, the EMTB team couldn't miss out on the Bosch eMTB Challenge. The perfect opportunity for a test duel: Editor-in-chief Josh Welz took to the start line on the new carbon eMTB from Flyer Uproc X, editor Adrian Kaether (see below) on Conway's new Xyron Carbon.

Adrian Kaether's first eMTB Challenge was just after starting his traineeship as an editor. An exciting format in which individual uphill and downhill stages are timed on a large lap. Who can prove themselves in a duel? The Flyer with its powerful Panasonic drive or Conway's new Xyron Carbon with its playful handling? You'll find the answer in EMTB 3/22 - on newsstands from mid-June.

The sports scientist and former riding technique trainer secured a strong seventh place in the Advanced category of the Bosch E-MTB Challenge, leaving some real mountain bike legends in his wake. Florentin competed on a Levo Expert, which has been tested by EMTB for some time.

Sandra Schuberth, sometimes an after-work ride, sometimes a training ride, sometimes an unsupported bikepacking challenge. The main thing is her and her gravel bike - away from the traffic. Seven Serpents, Badlands or Bright Midnight: she has finished challenging bikepacking races. Gravel and bikepacking are her favourite subjects, and her demands on equipment are high. What she rides, uses and recommends has to stand the test of time: not in marketing, but in real life.
