What looked like a Swiss one-two victory with a possible record for Schurter at the UCI Cross-Country World Cup Lenzerheide until the end of the last lap turned into an incredible drama: after several lead changes between Schurter and Flückiger, there was a surprise in one of the last root sections in the forest. During an overtaking attempt by Flückiger, the two Swiss rivals crashed and squandered their chances of winning the World Cup in front of their home crowd. While Flückiger spoke afterwards of an unfortunate crash, but one that was part and parcel of racing, Schurter severely criticised his compatriot. He had literally shot him down in a place that actually does not allow overtaking. The Italian Luca Braidot was delighted with the Swiss duel. He seized the opportunity and crossed the finish line first. Alan Hatherly from South Africa was delighted with a strong second place. The best German was Luca Schwarzbauer in 11th place.
Although there was less drama, the women's cross-country World Cup race was still exciting. As early as the first lap, a group consisting of Jenny Rissveds (SWE), Jolanda Neff (SUI), Loana Lecomte (FRA), Alessandra Keller (SUI) and Martina Berta (ITA) broke away from the rest of the field. As in Leogang, the first decisive attack came from Lecomte. Only Rissveds and Keller were initially able to keep up the pace. Despite the rather short climbs in Lenzerheide, the 2021 overall World Cup winner managed to extend her lead and ultimately take an unchallenged victory. Sweden's Jenny Rissveds finished in a strong 2nd place and local hero Alessandra Keller took 3rd place. The weekend was less successful for World Cup leader Rebecca McConnell (AUS). After her perfect start to the season, she still seems to be searching for her form and after 14th place she also has to hand over the leader's jersey to Loana Lecomte. The best German was Leonie Daubermann in 28th place.
