The UCI has awarded the venues for the World Championships until 2032 - a total of 13 events to ten countries. A special highlight: Trentino will host the third edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2031. The so-called Super Cycling World Championships encompass almost all cycling disciplines - just like the upcoming 2027 World Championships in France.

UCI decision for 13 cycling world championships

At its most recent meeting, the UCI Management Committee awarded the hosting rights for 13 world championships up to 2032. The decision covers ten countries and various cycling disciplines from mountain biking to paracycling. Trentino has been awarded the right to host the 2031 UCI Cycling World Championships.

The award follows a structured schedule over six years. Barcelona will start in 2026 with the Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships, followed by Derby with the Indoor Cycling World Championships in the same year. Rio de Janeiro and Asuncion will share the Paracycling Track Cycling and Track Cycling World Championships in 2028.

Trentino to host the 2031 World Cup

Trentino, officially the Autonomous Province of Trento, is located in the Alps in north-east Italy and will host the third edition of the Super Cycling World Championships in 2031. This event takes place every four years in the year before the Olympic Games and brings together the world championships of various cycling disciplines under one roof. The first edition of the Super Cycling World Championships took place in Glasgow and the whole of Scotland in 2023, while the second will be held in Haute-Savoie in France in 2027.

Distribution of the 2026-2032 World Championships

The years 2029 and 2030 show a high density of world championships with four events each. In 2029, the Cyclocross World Championships will take place in the province of Treviso, the Paracycling Road World Championships in Brasilia, the Mountain Bike World Championships in Nové Město and the Gran Fondo World Championships in Mörbisch am See. This distribution emphasises the international focus of the UCI calendar.

This development will continue in 2030 with the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Selva Val Gardena, the Mountain Bike World Championships in Durango and the Gran Fondo World Championships in Villars-sur-Ollon. The final event in 2032 will be Aalborg with the Gran Fondo World Championships in Denmark. The selection shows a balanced mix of established cycling nations and new markets such as Paraguay with the 2028 Track Cycling World Championships in Asuncion.

Significance for international cycling

The awarding of the 13 world championships creates planning security for teams, riders and organisers until 2032. The Super Cycling World Championships in Trentino 2031 in particular are expected to be the highlight of the cycling year before the 2032 Olympic Games. The combination of different disciplines at one location enables synergies in the organisation and marketing of the Super Cycling World Championships.
