Germany's Andreas Seewald narrowly misses out on defending his title: after exactly 117.5 kilometres and a race time of 4:17:07 hours, the 2021 Elba Marathon World Champion is only beaten by New Zealand's Sam Gaze (4:16:51 h). Seewald was a whole 17 seconds off the pace UCI MTB Marathon World Championships 2022 in Haderslev to gold. This is Gaze's second world championship title of the season after his short track triumph in Les Gets. Simon Andreassen (4:17:48 h) took bronze in front of his home crowd. Overall, the German marathon experts put their stamp on the race, finishing with four riders in the top 10, while Simon Schneller finished the World Championship race in eleventh place.
In the women's marathon world championship race, France's Pauline Ferrand-Prévot sprinted to her third world title in 2022 after 88 kilometres and a time of 3:36 hours. both rainbow jerseys in cross country and short track from Les Gets the 30-year-old is also unbeatable in the long distance. In the final sprint against Annie Last (GBR) and Jolanda Neff (SUI), Ferrand-Prévot came out on top and secured her ninth world championship title in total. Fourth and fifth place went to the two Danes Sofie Pedersen and Caroline Bohé. Stefanie Dohrn is the best German in 31st place.
