Solo or in a team: 24-hour race for bikers
It sounds like an impossible task: 24 hours in the saddle, the chain always as tight as possible. These MTB races are booming. A hell for solo riders, a nice camping weekend for teams including barbecues.

The finishing time is the same for every solo rider and every team: 24 hours. The battle for starting places, on the other hand, only lasts a few minutes. The race is always sold out in no time at all. What Wacken is to metal fans, the Chemnitz district of Rabenstein is to 24-hour bikers. In just a few years, the race has developed into a real magnet for participants. Anyone who has ever been there knows why. On the one hand, there is the lovingly mapped out route, which has everything from bumpy root trails to high-speed descents. Then there's the huge camping area, where a festival atmosphere reigns for two days. There's the supporting programme, the nearby reservoir, and, and, and. In short: an all-round experience. www.mtb-chemnitz.de

24 h of Finale (ITA)

Probably the most famous 24-hour race is celebrated with rigorous passion. High up on a mountain plateau above the coast of Finale Ligure, the festival site is enthroned with a gigantic show stage. From here, the riders are fired up with live music. They can't wait to get onto the next lap
because the route is trail porn beyond compare. www.24hfinale.com

24 h Race Munich (GER)

The Olympiaberg rises out of the Olympic Park like a huge green bump next to the Olympic Lake. And of course it goes right over it. The 24-hour race in Munich may not offer much singletrack fun, but it is still spectacular. Where else can you go round the clock on a mountain bike in the centre of a big city?

24 h Bike Race Alfsee (GER)

Idyllically situated on Lake Alfsee, not far from Osnabrück, the 12-kilometre course winds its way through beautiful holiday scenery. Solo cyclists, at least, will have few eyes for it, as the 160 metres of elevation gain mercilessly pushes the lactate into your legs. Dyke passages, forest paths and trails alternate cheerfully. A first-class event in a top setting. www.24-alfsee.de

2 Much 4 you (GER)

Cool slogan on the event website: "2 much 4 you, but not for me!" That's exactly what it's all about. The race in Oybin-Hain in Saxony in the middle of the Zittau Mountains is designed to prove itself. Started eleven years ago as a local event, the race has now become something of a cult event. Familiar atmosphere, varied route. Let's get there! www.2much4you.de

24 hours at the Nürburgring (GER)

There are said to be people with petrol running through their veins, at least literally. For them, the Nürburgring is a sacred place. Once a year, the race track is in the hands of endurance biking junkies. At the 24-hour race as part of the Rad am Ring festival, they may not have petrol, but they definitely have lactate in their blood. A unique experience amidst the idyllic Eifel scenery. www.radamring.de
