The Worlcup weekend in Les Gets was traditionally kicked off with the women's short track race. The track for the 20-minute sprint race was very fast, prepared with several rock gardens and offered few opportunities for overtaking. Olympic champion Jenny Rissveds set the pace for a long time. On the last lap, world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot attacked and left the Swede and Sina Frei standing. Sina Frei was then able to pass Rissveds on the final climb and secured second place. Loana Lecomte, this season's high-flyer so far, had to settle for twelfth place at her home World Cup and will only start from the second row on Sunday. The German Olympic starters Ronja Eibl and Elisabeth Brandau finished in 18th and 31st place, which means the third starting row for Eibl.
With the return of Tom Pidcock, many were betting on the young Briton ahead of the short track race. He worked his way up to the front ranks until halfway through the race, but then the 21-year-old crashed and was pushed back in the tight race. Pidcock made up ground after the crash to finish 16th, with Ondrej Cink, world champion Jordan Sarrou and Mathias Flückiger battling it out for the win. On the penultimate lap, nobody was able to follow the attack of the overall World Cup leader from Switzerland. Flückiger thus took his second short track victory in a row and demonstrated once again that his form for the Olympics is excellent. Jordan Sarrou came second and Ondrej Cink third. Max Brandl also put in a strong performance. The Lexware rider maintained constant contact with the leading group, finished sixth and will therefore start Sunday's cross-country race from the front row. German champion Manuel Fumic finished the race in 19th place, Georg Egger was 28th.
